Board your dog with confidence

Please Note:

Canine Initiative Training is not a boarding facility.

We do not have regular availability for standard boarding (outside of our Monday-Friday Board and Train program), and we are generally closed on weekends.

That said, regular boarding may be available on a case-by-case basis to current and previous clients only, depending on the dates needed, the temperaments and needs of the Board and Train dogs I have in at the time, and the temperament and needs of the dog(s) you are looking to board. Boarding during the week can often be accommodated - weekend boarding is rarely available, but you are always welcome to inquire about dates. Regular boarding services are mostly intended for dogs who have already been through training at Canine Initiative, who may have behavioral concerns or quirks that make it difficult for them to board elsewhere.

If you have a happy-go-lucky dog who goes with the flow, or need boarding frequently or on weekends, I would highly recommend looking for another boarding facility or finding a trustworthy pet-sitter to work with!

Boarding is not available to new clients unless a training program has already been booked.

Basic Boarding Information:

  • Price above includes regular potty breaks throughout the day, regular meals, and simple medications/supplements if needed.

  • Price above does not include enrichment or training while boarding. Those details are available below.

  • Dogs may stay at the training facility in 3’x5’ kennel runs or in appropriately sized crates, or may stay at my home in appropriately sized crates. Location will depend primarily on my schedule, and size of dog(s) boarding.

  • Dogs may go up to (but no more than) 11 hours overnight between potty breaks. Potty breaks will be offered more frequently during the day.

  • Potty yard is fenced (6’ chain link fence at facility, 6’ wooden privacy fence at my home). You are responsible for informing me if you suspect your dog may be able to scale the 6’ fence.

Boarding Requirements:

  • Dogs must be up to date on vaccinations, healthy, free from internal and external parasites, and not displaying any symptoms of illness or injury (unless vet has determined it safe/noncontagious and prior notification has been given)

  • Dogs must be potty trained and should be reasonably able to “hold it” for up to 11 hours overnight and for normal stretches during the day.

  • Any medical or behavioral notes should be disclosed in advance.

Boarding Packing List:

  • Food for the entire stay. Food can be prepacked in single meal portions or daily portions. If not packaged into portions, please be sure to include the measuring scoop you use at home, and clear feeding directions. Please send a little extra, just in case! (We do not need bowls for food or water.)

  • Any medications that may need to be administered during your dog’s stay, and clear instructions

  • Collar (preferably with ID) and Leash, plus any other training collars or equipment you use for your dog, if applicable

  • OPTIONAL:

    • Dog bed or blanket, if desired. (We are not responsible if your dog destroys the bedding. Chew-proof cots will be provided in kennels runs for dogs who chew regular bedding.)

    • Toys, chew toys, bones, etc. that are safe for your dog to have unsupervised in their kennel. (We are not responsible if your dog destroys toys.)

    • Training treats, if your dog will be participating in training or enrichment while boarding (especially if your dog has any food sensitivities or allergies!)

    • Interactive toys, if your dog will be participating in training or enrichment while boarding (Please make sure I know which toys are safe to give in the kennel, and which are only appropriate for supervised/interactive play.)

Add-On Enrichment or Training Sessions

Adding Enrichment activities or Training sessions while your dog boards is a great way to keep your pup mentally and physically exercises and fulfilled while he’s here.

Sessions will be available as my schedule allows - I cannot guarantee a specific number of sessions will get done each day. When requesting boarding, please indicate the type of sessions, and the maximum number of sessions you’d like your dog to receive each day while boarding. I will complete as many sessions as I can up to that number!

Add-On Enrichment Sessions

Boarding your dog and worried about him going a little stir crazy being kenneled? Adding on Enrichment sessions can be a great way to make sure your dog is getting the mental and/or physical exercise during the day that he needs, to reduce stress and make his boarding experience more pleasant and FUN! Adding on Enrichment sessions is highly recommended, especially for longer boarding periods of 3+ days at a time.

+ $15

for the first session each day

+ $10

for each additional session per day

What is Enrichment?

Each Enrichment session is approximately 10-15 minutes long. Activities are chosen based on owner recommendation or our own observations of the dog’s preferences. We offer a range of both physical and mental enrichment activities, including:

  • Play Sessions (if your dog gets along well with other dogs)

  • Individual or Pack Walks

  • Ball Time, Fetch, Flirt Pole

  • Tug Play, Spring Pole

  • Simple Trick Training, Body Awareness Games

  • Confidence Building Obstacles, Simple Agility

  • Treat Puzzles, Nose Work Games

  • Treadmill, Slat Mill (dog-powered treadmill)

  • And more!

Add-On Training Sessions

Wanting to get some training done while your dog is here? We can add on training sessions instead of, or in addition to, enrichment sessions. Add-on training sessions are only recommended for brushing up on skills the dog and owner have already learned. If you would like your dog to work on new skills during boarding, plan to set up a private lesson so that we can cover what your dog learned and how to maintain it!

+ $30

for the first session each day

+ $20

for each additional session per day

Training vs. Enrichment:

Training sessions are a bit longer than Enrichment sessions, lasting approximately 20-30 minutes. The focus of Training sessions is determined by the owner’s training goals, and the dog’s progress towards those goals.

The main difference between Enrichment and Training is the GOAL of the session. If the goal is just to provide exercise or fun for the dog, it’s Enrichment. If the goal is to dial in on issues and create progress towards a behavioral goal, it’s probably Training.

Keep in mind that any training I accomplish with your dog while your dog is with me, will only transfer to you if you learn what we worked on and how to maintain it. If you are asking me to work with your dog towards new skills, we will want to schedule a private lesson either at pick-up or shortly after so that we can cover what your dog learned.

What may be an enrichment session for one dog, may be considered a training session for another dog, based on the dog’s behavior, temperament, and previous training.

For example, a Play Group session with other dogs might be Enrichment for a happy-go-lucky, social dog, but it may be Training for a dog who is underconfident, reactive, or displaying aggressive behavior towards other dogs.

A Walk might be Enrichment for a dog who has already mastered polite leash manners, but may be Training for a dog who is still learning how to walk politely on leash.

Weekly Daycare/Enrichment Program

Looking to get your dog out of the house for some enrichment or training on a regular basis? Once a week, every Wednesday, we have Daycare options available.

Dogs are dropped off between 7:00-9:00am, and picked up between 4:00-6:00pm. They will engage in Enrichment sessions (or Training sessions) throughout the day. To learn more about our Daycare program, follow the link below:
