"Walking your dog should be like holding hands with a loved one. Not getting dragged by one."
This workshop will detail, step by step, the unique process I use to teach dogs how to walk politely on a leash. By focusing on clear communication and clear criteria to help your dog understand the desired behavior, and using both positive motivation as well as consequences for mistakes once the dog understands the rules of the walk, we will work to create a more cooperative walk with your dog.
We will discuss why I teach leash manners the way I do; how to teach your dog to walk politely behind you through clear communication, rewards, and corrections; how to safely and effectively select the most appropriate training tool for your dog, and how to use training tools properly; when and how to allow your dog more freedom on the leash without deteriorating your leash manners; tips for dealing with distractions or minor reactivity on walks, and more.
PLEASE NOTE: Although teaching polite manners on leash is often the first step to addressing more significant leash reactivity issues, this workshop is not designed to address reactivity - excessive pulling, lunging, barking, snarling, snapping, etc. - towards people, other dogs, or any other trigger while out on walks.
